Lancet Oncology 2010:11:637-645 외과 수술영역에서 복강경수술은 보편적인 수술법으로 자리잡았지만 직장암에서는 논란의 여지가 있었습니다. 성공적인 수술을 위해서는 종양을 완벽하게 제거하고 항문괄약근을 보존할 수 있어야 하며, 배변기능이나 배뇨기능, 성기능까지 고려해야 하는데 직장이 있는 골반은 공간이 좁아서 복강경으로 접근하는 것이 쉽지 않았습니다. 이런 이유로 그 동안 직장암은 복강경 수술보다 개복 수술이 더 안전하다고 여겨졌었습니다. 본 연구는 직장암 환자 340명을 대상으로 한 무작위 전향적 연구로서 직장암 복강경 수술의 안전성을 보였고, 장기결과는 곧 발표 예정입니다.
