[ 신손상 진행 에방과 치료를 위한 줄기 세포 치료법 개발 ]
신손상은 급성 신손상과 만성 신손상으로 구분할 수 있으며 두 경우에서 모두 신손상이 지속될 경우 신장 기능은 회복되지 못하고 투석이나 이식이 필요한 만성신부전증으로 진행하게 된다. 신손상 진행을 막기 위해서는 식이 요법, 약물 요법 (고혈압, 고지혈증, 고혈당 치료제)과 같은 보존적 치료를 기본으로 하여 면역기전(주로 자가면역 손상)에 의한 신손상인 경우에는 면역억제 치료를 병행하기도 한다. 하지만 아직도 많은 경우에서 신손상 진행을 완벽하게 막지 못해서 결국 만성신부전증으로 진행하는 것이 현 실정이다. 줄기 세포 치료 (mesenchymal stem cell)는 동물 실험에서 급성신손상 (허혈성, 신독성) 에방과 치료 효과는 알려지고 있으나 아직 용량, 투여 경로, 부작용에 대해 논란이 많으며 만성 신손상의 경우에는 아직 동물 실험 결과도 미미한 실정이라 실제 환자에서 임상 치료로 적용되지 못하고 있다. 연구자는 본원 신장내과 이정은, 장혜련 교수와 한팀으로 현재 급성신손상, 만성신손상 동물 모델에서 중간엽 줄기세포 치료 효과와 치료 기전을 연구 중이며 향후 임상 적용이 빠른 시간내에 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하고 있다.
